What is Divestment?
Investment
A purchase of something that has the potential to produce income or a profit
UA Investments
Our university invests in a range of asset classes through private equity
UA Fossil Fuel Investments
As of 2019, the University of Arizona has $64 million invested in fossil fuels
Divestment
The act of withdrawing money put into investments
Fossil Fuel Divestment
The phasing out of investments in fossil fuel corporations. Continued fossil fuel investments lead to further destruction of our environment and puts people at risk
ESG Investments
Environmental, Social, Governance Investments
Examples include the creation of a separate socially responsible investment fund [Appendix C], development of a concrete ESG evaluation process, and the inclusion of student voices within the Foundation.
DEMANDS
The University of Arizona Foundation complete a phased divestment from fossil fuels by 2029.
The UA Foundation publicly commit to no further investments in the fossil fuel industry from this point on.
The UAF and UArizona define and implement ESG investment policies and partnerships, inclusive of the UAF becoming a signatory of the UN PRI.
The UA Foundation include student representation, with voting power, on the Board of Trustees and the Investments Committee.
